V. A. Smith

Dr. Vincent Arthur Smith             V. A. smith was born on 3rd June 1843 and died on 6th February 1920. He was an Irish Indologist, member of ICS and curator. He has worked at Archaeological Survey of India. His father was well known for medical and numismatic circles in Dublin and London.  He got graduated in Trinity College, Dublin. He passed ICS examination in 1871. In 1910 Smith settled in Oxford, there he was appointed as the curator of Indian Institute. His monography of Indian history incudes emperor Ashoka and Akbar. He wrote two volumes of " The Early Indian History " and " Oxford History of India ", also book about history of fine arts in India and Sri Lanka. In 1919 he was awarded with "Companion of the order of the Indian Empire".                                                            ...
